OH ME!!! ME!! ME, but this year NO birds to show. I do not have a show quality anything at the moment old enough to show. BUT, I'll be there to look over the birds.
I have to type a funny note:
The first year I took chickens to the KY State Fair, I was in a tizzy
over the Pullorium testing. My vet had no idea how or when or what to do. I called around and around and around.
I never did see a "we do it at the fair note" but finally called the fairboard cheif. He directed me to the chicken cheif who laughed at (with me, yeah?) me
and told me you do it upon check in. Unlike horses, it does NOT take a week to get your results. Whew, but who knew. That same fair, after all that, I was washing my prized, though mean as heck Dominique Roo. He had a heart attack in the bath, silly thing and he died on me
. Not such a bully that night. Then, each one sat on the AC fan in the yard till fluffy dry
. Well, except that dead Roo. And next morning, all clean and ready to be put in the truck, I look at the fair book one last time. Hum, shoot, chicken are to be checked in no later than 9 am Thursday. TODAY is THURSDAY, it's past 9
. Needless to say, it was a pitiful sight to see all those empty cages with our Farm name on them. BUT, we learned a lot that year, and the next year we won one of those oh so nice huge trophys.
Hope to see some fellow BYCers there. We should wear colored bracelets or something to ID each other.
It should say "Looking for fellow BYC members, I am _______"
I plan on going, too. I dont have anything to show, but I would hopefully like to get some breeders names, look at the chooks, and of course - buy some!
At least this year I will know what to look for when I buy. First time I went, didnt know anything about chickens - neither did my family. The guy said they were "Show quality RIR and a breeder quality cuckoo marans". Neither were what he advertised. Looking back on it now, the RIR was production type and the Marans had horrible conformation/color.
Oh well, they were nice starter chickens.
Although, it was not so great of him to take advantage of my young age and inexperience like that. Its fine though; afterall, what if he didnt have a clue either?
Getting closer. The poultry arrives the 19th. Shows start on the 20th. They can leave after Saturday afternoon.
But I can only go on Thursday. Anybody else?

Hey lady, Maybe we could hang out or something... I am letting Layne stay out of school on that Thursday so he could go, I think they still get an excused state fair day don't they? Hubby will already be up there helping with his dads prints in the vendors hall, they have to set up a day early. I'll probably go up after school on Wednesday and stay the night either at a hotel in Shepherdsville or at my BILs(if there is room). If I decide on the hotel you are welcome to room with us Wednesday night. Have to warn you though, I snore...
