Hey guys pipping started yesterday and this morning I woke up to find two fluff balls sleeping in the lab bator. This is my first time hatching. If it wernt for all the informative and reassuring posts on this forum im certain things wouldn't have turned out so good.... So the first thing I'd like to say is a big thank you to all.
On the day of lockdown my dad decided to put a new batch of eggs in the bator. After a few strong words with each other we decided to leave them in there and start off a new batch. We turned these eggs 3 times a day opening turning the eggs using a see saw tray that I made and shutting it quickly (bator would be open for 2 seconds approx) this didn't seem to harm the hatching so far.
So there you have it... You CAN use a lab incubator to successfully hatch chickens!! The only things you need to keep an eye on is humidity levels... Which I ended up running it practically dry for the firstv18 days. Then in lockdown I placed a big water tray in the bottom of the bator and removed the top of the door seal (across the entire widthvof thevdoor, I just pulled it off) to allow for sufficient ventilation as I was concerned that there wasn't enough in there. I bought a hydrometer from eBay which says humidity in lockdown is 70 percent with the vents open. I was happy with that.
I have seen a few posts on here asking if it's possible to hatch eggs using a lab bator... I can tell you it very much is. Feel free to ask me with any qns you may have!
