Thank you for your responses. He's eating a lot more now. He ate half of a hard-boiled egg and some yogurt. She ate a bit of feed this morning but will only eat yogurt now. They pecked at a bit of spinach. I know it's not good to give them too many snacks but should I continue giving them those things if that's all they'll eat?I would only treat birds that have clear symptoms.
It's good that he seems to be improving.
Sometimes being around another bird is encouragement for them.
For now, I would just encourage them to eat. Do make some wet or dry feed available for them, but if they are willing to eat egg, a little meat/fish or fruit/veggies, then that's a good thing. Make grit available free choice so they can process foods.Thank you for your responses. He's eating a lot more now. He ate half of a hard-boiled egg and some yogurt. Also, how many days should I give them the Tylan 50?
Tylan 50 dose is 0.25ml per pound of weight given orally 3 times a day for 5 days.
Thanks! Oh, sorry, I must have missed that part. For now, I would just encourage them to eat. Do make some wet or dry feed available for them, but if they are willing to eat egg, a little meat/fish or fruit/veggies, then that's a good thing. Make grit available free choice so they can process foods.
A little scratch soaked overnight will help soften it up, this can be mixed with a small amount of soaked feed to give them a mash, they may enjoy that...
Eating is something is better than nothing. Once they start feeling better, then reduce the amount of goodies and push their normal feed.
My understanding is the Tylan is bitter so this may affect their appetite.
Give the Tylan for 5 days.
Yeah, your birds definitely got a disease from the strange birds. Sucks. It's odd that the rest of the flock is sneezing but acting normal otherwise. Should I treat them too? I heard they were going to be Thanksgiving dinner so maybe I should just leave it...?
I decided to move the pullet inside too if I'm going to have to dose her three times a day. She still seems pretty active and feisty so I hope treating her early can help her recover quicker. I dosed her and she gave me the stink eye like she was going to murder me lol. The cockerel seems to do a little better with her around. I left some fermented feed in front of her and when he saw that she pecked at it a bit, he started eating a little too. He also started eating some hard-boiled eggs, not a lot, but at least something. But now, the pullet isn't eating.
I also wondered if maybe they had both worms and the respiratory illness since the cockerel seems to be doing better even though I just started him on the Tylan 50 today.
I don’t recommend it. You can gently clean him off, but it will stress him too much to bathe him. Thanks! Oh, sorry, I must have missed that part.
Would it be okay to give him a bath during this time? He's been soiling himself and smelling pretty bad.
That does suck. When they get better, I think I should have my brother's gf remove her birds to prevent reinfection and then I should disinfect the coop with vinegar before I put them back in there. Would it be necessary to do anything about the soil in the run?Yeah, your birds definitely got a disease from the strange birds. Sucks.![]()
