I am soo excited...my girls laid 9 eggs today! Everyone of them laid an egg!! First time in a long time... It is probably because of that talk I had with them. ha ha

I suppose it is safe to say as Wild Sky pointed out; they are faking me out. If you pardon the pun, I have egg on my face. I see now that I am spending entirely to much time in the chicken yard.

Tink, good for you and your hens. Mine are faking it big time and I still don't understand what they are doing. On the nest, sit for a while, then off the nest, no egg.

Out of 11 hens, one day I get 8 eggs, next day 2, then 5, then 6. No rhyme or reason.

But I will not do anything to upset them. I was reading that chickens out number humans. Probably best not to make them mad, hugh?

I have a very, very small eight month old barrred rock named Owl bait (her name is a whole nother story) She wont lay an egg to save her life, but she likes to sit on the very large eggs that the Lt. Brahmas laid. I know she didnt lay them! They are four times the size of her head! un

The answer to this is simple: ever had to poop and figure out that you didn't or couldn't? This is a function of the amount time that it took for you to decide. Chickens are no different, at least that's my opinion. Only other plausible answer would be some diversionary tactic to keep humans from visiting the coop so often.
