laid while on the roost

hey everyone! i went out to collect a couple eggs a minutes ago, and i noticed that a very teeny tiny egg had been laid while someone was on a roost! all of my hens are first timers, and everyone else (5 of my girls so far) has been laying in the nest boxes! i mean this egg was TINY so i could see how they maybe just thought they had to poop? i just hope this isn't a regular thing. any thoughts?

My ne laying girl has done this twice with soft shelled eggs, as long as the majority of them are laid in the box, I don’t think that it’s a problem.

New layers can do that unknowing as then they grow up a bit they use nest boxes after that first

Not unusual or a big concern. It is mist common in new layers, but even established layers can have one sneak up on them occasionally

It happens. Its not natural and something that won't happen on a regular basis. Just bad timing of a daily cycle. I've seen it once in 3 years.

I even have that happen with older birds from time to time, all my eggs without shells are laid from the roost. I tend to just break open the membrane and feed chickens in another coop with them.

Yes! Happened to me too, went to go clean the poop mat and found a yolk! Must have been soft-shell laid from the roost, she only did it once and now lays hers with the rest in the nest box, figured it out on her own, don't think its an issue.

Ive had this happen as well. Ive also had one lay an egg not even thinking about it. She just popped it out like she was an egg pez dispenser. It makes me think of that weird show "i didnt know i was pregnant"
