Lakeside Egger Thread

Wanted to add to this thread as I got a lakeside egger this spring as well and was confused when she looked nothing like the images on Meyers website I knew as a cross she could look different but I struggled find examples of similar looking Lakeside Eggers. Shes a beautiful light gray bird with puffy cheeks. Meyer did confirm she is a lakeside egger and she laid her first egg this week, a beautiful blue! Sharing in case it helps anyone else trying to figure out which of their chicks is the LE!

Im late to the party. But your bird looks just like a lisa steele's steel egger from Meyer Hatchery. Maybe a mixup happened?

Looking at this breed as I love Easter Eggers, but was thinking of adding a blue egg layer to the flock. It looks like as with Easter Eggers, you still might get a variation of blue which includes green? I wonder if that also means is a possibility to get a brown egg. Which then leads me to think this is just a different Easter Egger variety. Well played Meyer hatchery.

I wonder if this breed is created from the cream legbar?

I love the barred plumage, but it would also be fun to get a lavender variety as posted by the Ohbrahmas. The black barred varieties remind me of my barred rocks and the blue barred reminds me of my sapphire gems (which is a barred rock hybrid). Just add a poof and you've got the lakeside egger.

My current Easter Egger is a black and white with a spangled pattern. She is about 7 years old. She has laid a mint green egg, but does so very sporadically these days. I got her from a local backyard farmer who had too many chickens for such a small coop and they needed to re-home about half of their chickens because they weren't ready for winter. I got ZuZu with her sister Maizie (ergo my username). When we caught the chickens, it was kind of chaotic. The lady caught my ZuZu and handed her to me and said, "Here you can have the ugly one." I took her and whispered, "You're not ugly." Eventually she turned out to be my top hen, she doesn't take gruff from any chicken.

Not sure on if you can get a brown egg layer, but all of mine have laid colored eggs. Lavender is the only one that lays a really blue egg while the other 2 lay a blue-green egg. They do have lovely temperaments and they seem about average when it comes to broodiness as far as I can tell. Basil went broody last summer. I do hope she goes broody again this year as she is the top hen so I know she'd do a really good job of protecting her brood. They also lay as well as any other easter egger (which is just right for me, not too much and not too little). I'd think you'd like them, I would certainly give them a go if you're curious

I read through the reviews on Meyer Hatchery no one mentioned a brown egg yet. I just thought it might be possible. Someone mentioned that their lakeside Eggers were aggressive. I guess anything is possible. Another mentioned that theirs were broody. So, that's interesting that they have a broody hybrid. I wonder if they are mixed with silkies? My silkie mix is broody half of the year. I definitely have the Lakeside Eggers on my wish list.
