I brought my 6 chicks home yesterday - everything seems to be going well - but I noticed one of the chicks appears to be favoring one foot. It isn't moving around like the others - it can move as it will run off when my hand appears, but much of the time it sits in one spot & I've noticed it sometimes will hold that same foot up, as tho it hurts to have it on the ground. Anything I can do? - am guessing not - but thought I'd ask. I picked the chick up & looked - nothing obvious as in no wounds. suggestions? It's a black australorpe thanks

Give it time and see what it does. Maybe the leg got a little hurt when it hatched.

I had a chick (a wyandotte) that liked to stand on one leg when I first got her, she'd walk around on it but lift it when she stood still - after a week or so she was no longer holding it up. I'm not sure if it was hurting her or just normal behavior - but she's just fine now. Good luck!

update - this little chick came through in perfect condition. By 5 or 6 weeks, if I'm remembering correctly, there was no more indication that anything was wrong. And now at 13 weeks, she's as mobile as any of the others. Wait and see was the best advice!.

For any others who are wondering - she used her wings to keep moving - then stopped & rested every few inches or so - defintiely looked serious. glad it wasn't!
