This is the first time I bought fertilized eggs for a broody hen .. six eggs. She was amazing but only left the nest once a day and some times I had to put her out. The main reason for this was because she developed a limp
and I figured she needed the exercise. Anyway all the viable eggs hatched on day 21 the sixth egg never formed. The chicks are beautiful.
First question...should I have brought them indoors as soon as the weather turned wet and windy and basically cold? On the second day one chick wandered from the nest and I found it face down dead in the cold small house near the water
The hen can hardly walk maybe one of the reasons one died was because she couldn't get him. I manually put her outside four times a day to poop and to stand up and move. She really struggles and mostly flies back to my house.
Second question... has anyone else any experience of a lame chicken and what did you do?
note they are all in a box indoors. It is big enough for her to walk around.
Thanks Claire
