We just hatched two chicks ( Silkie/ D'Uccle cross) for a friend, and one of them is quite lame on its right leg. The hock is swollen, and the gastroc tendon feels like it is displaced laterally. I can pop it back into place with finger pressure, but it will pop right out again. I don't feel any fractures.
My daughter swears the chick suffered no trauma at her hands.
I actually took videos of this chick right after it hatched, and it was not lame then, so this has happened since. Any ideas how to approach this? Has anyone ever splinted a small chick's leg?
