My year old barnyard hen has been hobbling around for a few weeks now. I've checked under her foot and there is no signs of bumblefoot as her swelling seemed higher up around her ankle. She hasn't been roosting up with the rest of the flock and today they started pecking at her quite aggressively. Inspecting her today she now has a long slit all across her foot that is extremely painful for her. I have given her an Epsom Salt bath which she relaxed in and ate and drank well afterwards. She is now isolated here in the house with us. Can anyone tell me what this is, if its contagious and if she has a fighting chance?

Welcome To BYC

It looks like it could be Frostbite to me. Where are you located in the world?
If it's frostbite, then she may lose her toes.
Awww. Yes. We are up in British Columbia. This was my second year having Chickens and we never encountered it last year. We had a very mild winter up until the second week in February when the temperature dropped drastically. I was thinking that could be it but just wanted another opinion. Thank you.
