I was wandering wether I can use reptile lighting as in the bulb and the actual lamp source or does it have to be brooder lamp I just want a little extra heat for my quails as a heat plate doesnt seem enough to me and what watts should it be at if I want that extra bit of heat?

I don't know anything about quail so can't advise on what temperatures they need. But yes reptile bulbs are safe for poultry and I find them to be easier to use as they're lower wattage and don't burn as hot as typical chicken brooding bulbs.

Could you reccomend any small lamps?

I have used the lower wattage red bulbs in my heat lamp at times for the chicks, when the 250 watt bulb is too hot. They work fine. I agree, don't know what's needed for quail chicks.

Do they have to be red light and what's the lowest watt you can get

I've had 150 watt and 75 watt bulbs from the pet store, and red is best, so the chicks can sleep at night. White light is not normal, if it's on 24 hours.

do bulbs like this work?
