Thanks everyone!

So far I've been able to avoid asking embarrassing base-level questions because BYC is such a great tool!

Hi! I'm Ann from eastern Connecticut. I have had chickens before, but I was young, naive and getting free chicks from the fair (read as: a flock of roosters on the family farm). The landlord agreed to a coop/chickens today

, which doesn't surprise me, but I went and got my hopes up BEFORE the SO called for official permission. Building begins next week or the week after. I'm currently debating breeds/proper heritage vs. "feed store", and trying to convince myself that I can max out at 5 and STAY AT FIVE. I am looking for breeders in the area and also wondering if there is a newbie thread... So far, BYC has been a great inspiration and wealth of information! Thank you already!
Congratulations! Just give the landlord some fresh eggs and he will never regret his decision. I got my 5 chickens in Nov. from Melissa at ClarkFarmBusiness.com. They are in Higganum, CT but have heard great things about Gaetano Farm. Also checkout the thread: "Southern NY, Dutchess county and below." Nice people and lots of information. I have learned a lot and enjoyed it there. Irene
