Landrace/adaptive breeding discussion

I've never purchased from them before. I'll let you know how it goes. The website says they stopped shipping eggs because of low hatch rates after shipping.
I found a thread on here about Cubalayas that was started by someone who ordered from them recently and ended up with 12 live birds. :/ Not trying to freak you out I am just really considering ordering from them next spring and want to know what to expect. I don’t want to brood ever again but if I can do it one and done I would do it with breeds from there.

He did say that the post office is getting careless and gives strict instructions for what to do if birds arrive dead.

It happens, I get that. I accept the risk, both because he has breeds I need and because he's one of the few people doing wholesale preservation work. The money goes to support hundreds of rare breeds, not just of chickens but many other birds and crop plants. If I only get 12 live birds I'll be disappointed, of course, and I'll let you know if that occurs.

I think every hatchery is having shipping issues right now. Hopefully it improves soon. This is a good time of year temperature wise at least.
Earlier this season there was a situation where a PO truck carrying thousands of chicks from various hatcheries was simply parked over the weekend. They were looking at about 8000 survivors iirc, but more than half died. That one incident was probably a good portion of the "problems" this spring.
