Landrace/adaptive breeding discussion

As I've been reading through older threads about landrace breeds, I came across Bullfrog's thread about jungle fowl. Someone cited an article that was fascinating to me about wild game chickens in Fitzgerald, Georgia. I take no credit for finding it, but since I sure wasn't here in 2019 when it was posted, I thought I'd leave the citation here for those who haven't yet seen it: https://www.audubon.org/magazine/stalking-wild-ur-chicken

Any Fitzgerald rooster would be an excellent edition or foundation for a landrace project

The question is how to catch one 😆
Personally I would scout as many as possible to find the ideal rooster, then keep an eye on him around dusk to see where he roosts. Chickens are far easier to catch at night
Road trip!
I've actually considered driving there before for this purpose, but I have about 15 cockerels right now I want to give a chance

Well we need time to strategize anyway…and to find a bus we can fit in with all the chickens 🤣🤣

I saw this the other day, where someone unintentionally created survival chickens by abandoning them. Apparently they've been going strong completely on their own for four years now. Since this happened in my county, it makes me optimistic of chickens surviving totally free-range on my land. Someone jumped on this immediately and said they'd be out to catch them.

It would take me several days to catch all of my chickens, and that's with me living here, knowing my chickens well, knowing the land well, and working hard to catch them

There's a good chance that person will have chickens available still despite multiple parties showing up to catch chickens already
