Landrace project F1 chicks!!!

Interesting. I'm year 7 with my mixes, it's fun to watch the changes in the flock. I've got a flock of 20, been breeding for a duel purpose bird that survives almost exclusively by free ranging. Good layers. Very broody. A little flighty. Decent size. They used to be every color you could think and now they are mostly creole/cuckoo patterned, a few random whites pop up, some brown reds, silver duckwing etc.

Saipan jungle fowl x Dominique x 3 types of American gamefowl x leghorn x houdan x orpington x australorp

Do you have a post documenting your project? I have a similar project, but only a few years in. The base is JG, RIR, with Marans, Buckeye, BA and Ranger. Last spring I added in Kraienkoppe, American Game (two survivors) and a Dorking-Sussex mix.

That's super interesting!!! How's they're broodiness? They sound like absolutely fascinating birds!

I have been thinking about getting some dominiques for my landrace project. Did you get yours from a hatchery? What are they like temperament-wise?
They are good chickens. My original blood came from a rooster 5 years ago that was 1/2 Dominique and 1/2 gamefowl. He's still alive and kicking, hanging with my goats. His son was my main rooster the past 4 years up until a couple days ago. Changing to one of his sons apparently lol

I have a couple hens that go broody a couple times a year and are great moms. I have one that went broody 3 times this year but she's a horrible mother, just dumb. I keep having momma hens killed protecting there young. I have about 10 pullets who should be getting busy this spring 🤞finally get some really big numbers. I was down to just 2 roosters and 6 hens at the beginning of the year because of the neighbors dog(2 hens killed this year being protective). New generation understands our dogs are cool and other dogs aren't lol

The rooster I just retired with hen and chicks
