Langshan Thread!!!

Way to go M! Really awesome job for you!

On a side note, got my birds entered into the local county fair. It's kinda fun to see a show that Forrest used to show in (and eventually stopped going to since nobody wanted to listen to him) and seeing my own birds form his lines showing in their ancestors claw steps. It hit me as I was looking at my male and seeing all these people stopped around him because he was "the biggest chicken they'd ever seen."

I also heard someone from my 4H club say "It's not right that our birds don't live up to the standard. That's why we order from a hatchery...for show birds!"

Pretty sure I hurt some feelings when I went "Oh heck no it's not! You order from there for something that looks kinda like the breed you want. If you're after show birds you HAVE to go to a breeder."

Now I'm curious, just how big is that chicken?

Well mine are 16 weeks and my rooster is mounting them!

Teenage hormones run wild!

Ya lol and he's getting my gold laced orpington pullets mostly because they're so slow and clumsy haha

I love my Langshan cockerels! They are slow to mature, slow to crow, and slow to mate! Because of that, they get to stay here in town with me and I get to enjoy them before they get moved to the farm. I have a 20 week old blue cockerel running with my flock of hens. He is just now starting to occasionally call the girls over for treats. Usually, he uses his long legs to get to the treats first and take off with a beakful! I hope that when he grows into his legs, he makes the cut for breeding!
