Langshan Thread!!!

Thanks for stopping in! I do the same myself...often tend to "forget" to get online unfortunately!

I went onto the Great Britain website, but couldn't find the photo you were talking about? I only saw the Blue German Langshan on the page next to a Shamo? Interesting on the Modern Game explanation though...Sounds somewhat similar to a Malay with feathers on it's legs?

This is the page address. It has a short write up to go with the picture. http://www.poultryclub.org/breed-gallery/chickens/rare-soft-feather-heavy/

Somehow the software is adding my comments to the quoted note, just a clarification to avoid any confusion.

As much as I LOVE our Croads, I can't stand the look of those "Modern Langshans." I think we'll stick to the Croads.

They are such regal birds, and they are so friendly.

I have a friend who is a judge, I know she has never seen a Modern, but I shall ask her for a copy of the Standard. I know there's 3 or 4 breeders here in the UK that keep them going, but they never seem to show them. They are supposed to be clean-legged, and more game-type than the Croad. They should be quite easy to re-create. German Langshans were originally Large Fowl, but both here in the UK, and on the continent you see mainly bantams. They should be quite simple to re-create. I shall look and ask around what they originally used to create them, but as Langshan bantams were not around when they created them, it should be even easyer to make them now, with a good result. An exiting project, but for young people, as it will take some years for the type to come through.
