Congrats in scoring a nice rooster!!! Awaiting the pics!Hi Shellie,
I'm sure you're typing on your phone or something, but is there any way that you could use spacing in your posts? I'm old school and have difficulty reading posts like that. Not trying to be offensive but it makes it difficult for me to read.
Thanks!
Glad you could get some info Inkheart! I try to never sell chicks. You just never know which of them could be the awesome sauce to your spaghetti. I try to wait until they're old enough so I can see what I have. Then..you get those that like to change gender on you....it happens! I'm sure of it!
I was lucky enough to today to find out someone near me that has Beauford lines was selling about 20 cockerels. I went to his house and picked out the creme de la creme from his stock. I now have a "backup" in case none of the black chicks wind up being cockerels and/or none of my blue cockerels wind up being what I want. Whoop!
He's a handsome boy! I'm looking forward to seeing pics of him as he grows!!! Thank you for sharing with us!OK. I got some awful photos from my phone. BUT...as you can see, he has a HUGE lice problem. I've sprayed the eggs, sprayed his legs and have sprayed his body. I'll wait a few days and pluck the feathers so they'll grow back without the eggs attached.
He's about 4.5 months, the same age as my own birds, maybe a little bit younger.
This is my hand/coat to the next of him. I am SO not ready for cold weather.

I got a photo of his stance. He doesn't "quite" have cow hocks but not as wide as I'd like to see either. It could be age which is why I let it go for now. Overall, it's still a wider stance and balances well with the rest of him.
Things I'm not fond of on him:
1. Comb. I don't like combs that don't follow the skull.
2. Eye color is marbled, but overall is dark.
3. I keep thinking I see a slight cushion but next time I turn around it's gone. It'll take some growth and it will either go away as he ages or get worse. Time will tell!
Overall, I think he's a good backup just in case!![]()
How exciting!!! Congrats!I was lucky enough to today to find out someone near me that has Beauford lines was selling about 20 cockerels. when I say follow the head...I mean more like a Plymouth Rock instead of a Leghorn. I want the comb close enough to the base of the head that it will #1. Not freeze and #2. Not flop over. #2 is also preventable by having a nice, thick base to the combs on top of a nice, wide head.I like combs that follow the head as well, but if I recall correctly the standard says they should not follow the head. I'll have to go back and look... It's hard to remember everything. He looks a bit rough but I can see that he has a lot of potential and I am definitely starting to notice the features that you like and look for in a bird. I look forward to seeing him again in a few weeks and hearing what you think of him then. This has been some great learning lately. Good on you Mikaela!
How exciting!!! Congrats!![]()
