Langshan Thread!!!

I'm sure people will be traveling soon so even though it's a couple days early I'd like to wish y'all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope your holidays are worth crowing about!

PS: since it's almost 2014 we should petition a mod to change thread title.

Finally. A sunny day. That isn't freeeeeezing.

So here you go, some pictures of my Hanley trio. They are still in the final stages of molt so forgive the missing feathers. I love this group. A shade cloth over the pen and still they have lovely green sheen.

and I don't know what happened to the exposure in this picture.
Thanks for sharing. I love seeing pictures of other people's Langshans. I feel like I'm starting to form some idea of what I'm shooting for with mine.

I had a disappointing discovery yesterday morning. The splash pullet that I've been showing off on this thread was dead in the henhouse. No clues as to what happened. She was my only blue carrying bird and the only representative of the Ebay line that I had left. Unfortunately she was also one of my choosen breeders for the Spring, perhaps the best one. I was originally only interested in black but this splash had won me over. Oh well, guess I'm concentrating on the black again.

So sorry that you lost your splash pullet. I know just how you feel. I was not planning on breeding whites but the white roo that hatched from eggs from Mikaela was so big and beautiful that I made room in my mind for whites. Then he mysteriously died and that ended my white breeding before it even started. I only have one white hen and she is not the best quality so will remain in my friend's layer flock. It is probably better for me to concentrate on my BBS breeding anyway.

Beautiful! Love the width of their bodies & tails. That's something that I need to work on improving in my flock.

LOL! Amen! I used to be able to change it routinely but unfortunately that changed many times throughout the years and I wasn't able to change it any more so left it.

ETA: There we are! :D

Hi all
smile.png
.
I remember coming here a few times before and remembering the Langshan lot where real nice and very very informative.
Now I know Leghorns are quite different to Langshans but I was just wondering if you guys and girls would be able to help me out with a few breeding questions? These questions are not specific to Leghorns, more just breeding in general.

Please ask away. Be happy to help if possible!
