Langshan Thread!!!

Where do you live? Cheryl (Omelet Ranch) and I have some juveniles that we raised from eggs from several breeders. Due to her health, time constraints, and room issues, we are not going to be breeding them after all. :-( I may be keeping a couple roos and some hens to raise at a friend's farm who is interested in raising heritage, dual purpose breeds for meat and eggs. But if someone on here is interested in starting their own Langshan flock or adding to the one they have, we have some extra birds in all 4 colors.

i have a breeder down the road from me and he shows his Langshans, hes the top breeder for show Langshans in this area, ive just gotten a few of his last show langshans for my flock and i was going to slowly sell of my original flock and just have a purebred flock. I just want to see some pictures of some Show Langshans to compare to mine.

Wish you were closer, or I lived in a less restrictive state than Virginia :( I'd take two pair.

Here are updated shots of Larry and one of Lou. I'm really liking Larry's personality. Definitely going to need to find Lou a new home. Anyone interested? I'm near Seattle.

Had to put my splash cockerel down. He either broke his leg or slipped a tendon. I couldn't feel where his tendon was out but after 6 weeks, his leg stopped growing and he could hardly get around.

Dangit. He was everything I look for in a breeder and more!

So sorry about your roo.

I have one young splash cockerel here but he isn't from your stock.

Long sad day - lost all (7) of my 2 month old Langshan (splash & blue) last night/this morning.

Still numb, sick to my stomach & now worried about tonight! We think maybe our dog or maybe dogs (2) might have done it. Hole in fence, chicken wire pulled away from base. None were eaten, nor missing heads etc. 4 in the pen, 2 in the garden area outside pen that is seperated from rest of fenced in backyard & two in the backyard were dogs stay.

Not that I am happy about it but I hope it was my critters rather than something else, because that means the problem is still out there & the chickens are not secure. See we've always left the garden gate open so if the dogs heard anything going on up/in there they would chase it away. So, at this point, not sure if our security plan has backfired on us or not.??? The gate is closed tonight, all other 30 chickens are in their coops/run/pen (4 total) but now I worry it wasn't the dog/dogs and some other critter may be the culprit & with the gate closed the dogs wouldn't be able to get in there.

After calling my husband @ work, totally freaking out, he came home early with hard wire, but we only got a couple of pieces up. We have 4 pens in a row, divided up, but run some 60ft. long by any where from 8ft. to 20ft. wide. They butt up against a chain link fence in the back, all enclosed on top with chicken wire & around all 4 sides.

I've already been up there 2x since dark and probably will be all night every couple of hrs. until we can get all the hard wire up tomorrow. I really need a xanax but afraid to sleep!

Oh wow. I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you figure out who the culprit is soon. It's horrible to think it is your own dogs, but its worse not knowing what else might be out there.

I hesitate to think it might be your dogs if they've had access to the chicken area for a long time with never a problem before.
