I've seen that brown color in many blue chickens. I've been told it is due to sun exposure from reliable sources.

Thanks, Dirt! I was hoping that was what caused it!I've seen that brown color in many blue chickens. I've been told it is due to sun exposure from reliable sources.
Welcome to the thread! We aren't a very active thread but some of the nicest people are on it!Hello!!I found this thread, and I just wanted to ask, I had a Langshan Rooster, Oh he was beautiful!!! I just sold him this last weekend, I can't have roosters, and now I am having sellers remorse
but before I did I put 12 eggs in the incubator, now I did not have a Langshan Hen, the Eggs I collected are from 2 lavender Orps, 2 Lemon Orps and 1 BLRW.... I am just hatching this one time to try hatching and a cool project to do with my son, ( I hope just the one time! This chicken math/addition is killing me!! Ha!) So I guess my question is, what are these chicks going to be? Just a "barnyard" mix? And so far all 12 eggs are developed!!![]()
Thanks for any help!!
Welcome to the thread!!!Forgot to add this. How do they do in winter?
Ive got 2 black pullets that are a little skittish, did great during the winter when our lowest was 25 i think. For egg laying mine started in December thru last week i was getting 1-2 eggs a day with very few off days. Unfortunately i had to pull their nest box out to try stopping the bigger one from brooding so the laying has stopped for now. This is just what I've gone thru with my first ones. I did have a cockrel for them but he passed on out of nowhere so I'm still looking for a new one.Hi I'm thinking for my next breed of chicken I get they might be bantam Langshans. I was wondering if some one could answer a few of my questions. I was wondering how good their egg laying abilities are. Obviously they will lay small eggs but I just want to know how often and how they lay in winter. I also want to know how their temperaments are. I really just want to know all the pros and cons of these birds. I also want to know if they are fragile. Thanks.
Thank you! Haven't ran into to many people not nice on BYC! I think this is the best site!!Welcome to the thread! We aren't a very active thread but some of the nicest people are on it!You will have to post pics of the chicks after they hatch! I would say, yes, a barnyard mix. I am just starting to breed Langshans and right now have all 4 colors free ranging on several acres at my friend's farm because I can't have roosters in town. One of my hens here in town went broody so I grabbed 4 fertile (hopefully) eggs from the farm to put under her. 2 are Langshan but who knows what color and 2 are Langshan/Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rock mixes. The only roos in their area are my 4 colors of Langshans. It will be interesting to see what hatches. If they are girls, they will go into the laying flock at the farm and if boys, we will see what the crosses taste like!![]()
Skyline and Pawhead are close to you, I think. But I don't know if they have bantam Langshans or not. Some of my LF stock is from them (Meek's line).Ive got 2 black pullets that are a little skittish, did great during the winter when our lowest was 25 i think.
