Langshan Thread!!!

Well...color me stumped and confused. Gorgeous pictures though. I can't wait to have Langshans ranging around again. *sigh* They're just beautiful against a green grass backdrop. Can't wait to see as the chick develops.

Will post again when she gets a few more feathers.

I get loads of compliments on them. When people come by the house and the Langshans come walking around the corner or something people catch their breaths and tell me how beautiful they are... and huge. You totally need some!

Thanks for the information. Not ready to order any just yet, but I wanted to get some recomendations.

BGMatt. I do believe it is a blue Langshan chick from the two blacks. Feathers are coming in blue on the wing tips!

Some baby pictures...

Some of the blacks...

This is the little blue one and her silkie buddy.

How cute!!! I love Langshan chicks!

Welcome to the thread! It is too bad that you are on the East Coast instead of out here in Cali! I had a BYC member from my area contact me yesterday looking for black pullets. I am just starting my breeding program and won't have any available (hopefully available) until fall.

Hello everybody. I'm new to the group. I have a dozen white and a dozen black Langshans coming Monday. I really like the color variations in a flock and tried the Blue Andalusians for the same reason but they haven't blown me away. I've been reading through the thread looking for information about breeding, color standards, etc. Are there any resources (like a book or something) that provide a good background in Langshan genetics? I found quite a bit about the Andalusians, and I expect the Langshans will be the same more or less. True?

Also, do most breeders mix up the colors or try to keep the color lines pure? What will happen after several generations in a mixed flock?

Looking forward to hearing more about everybody's birds!

and to this thread! I am just starting my Langshan breeding program so I'm just learning. I don't know what would happen with a mixed black and white flock. I do know that you can keep Blue, Black, and Splash together. I have all 4 colors but I didn't plan on breeding whites until I ended up with a white cockerel that I love and 1 white pullet. I'm sure one of the more experienced Langshan breeders on the thread will chime in with better info!
