Langshan Thread!!!

Congrats on the new Langshans BGmatt!!

Thanks! I'm really excited to be working with the Whites and can't wait to see how those chicks grow out from the eggs. I'm sure I will keep everyone posted. After some long conversations with people I respect I think I am going to slowly rehome my other breeds so that I can focus on just the three varieties of Langshan.

That's what breeder said anyway, I've never heard of such a thing. Kids and their weird fad breeds these days. I don't go for the backyard non standard junk.

I guess I should be happy with the hatch rate but so few were viable I'm kin of soured on the egg shipping process. Will see how next two weeks go. I do have a pair of adult Whites coming from Joe Oakley next week so hopefully will be able to get some hatched out of that. That with the chicks will give me starts in all three varieties of Large Fowl. Gotta put the pressure on those weird fluffy Cochin things for the asiatic class in the shows ya know. LOL

Freia that chick looks like they're going to have nice lacing. I'd probably agree with Mrheinz about it being a cockerel though.

Happy Memorial Day y'all. Hope y'all are bbqing some good chicken tonight.
Look out Asiatic!!

I'm very burnt out on the high risk of shipped right now myself

that incubator's way too quiet still. I'll be staring at it all day tomorrow, so you'll know where I'll be.
Pretty sure this stress and the ugly mess those eggs arrived in has swayed me to order chicks rather than eggs from Horstman on the Dorkings (but happily, he's ready for my list. So I should have a date soon

Looks like your only competition for this year's gonna be ol' Yule from around here anyway. So far

but ya never know!
Can't wait to see you're new arrivals! I have no doubt they're gonna be gorgeous!

Had tacos and deviled egg salad here ^^

I have 11 Langshan eggs from my farm flock that are developing at 10 days! It was so good to see signs of life instead of dead embryo after dead embryo! The breeder that I got the shipped eggs from is planning on coming to the Stockton show next January and I'll get eggs or birds or both from him then. In the meantime, I'll just hatch out my own birds and maybe something good will grow from them!

Nope. Sorry for confusion. There are 2 or 3 black chicks, 3 or 4 blue chicks (can't remember and not at home) and one splash. I am also getting an adult pair of whites. There's also a ~10 week old Blue pullet of unknown origin that my buddy picked up for me a show. All this is a much better improvement over a couple months ago when finding sources as a struggle.

I must have missed something. Did you get any chicks from the AZ breeder's eggs?
