Langshan Thread!!!

I must have missed something. Did you get any chicks from the AZ breeder's eggs?
Sadly, not a one.

He shipped 35 and 5 arrived broken or cracked. I let the rest of them sit large side up for 24 hours before putting them in the incubator. Then I didn't start the turner for another 2-3 days on the advise of several other BYCers who are more experienced with hatching shipped eggs. When I candled at 10 days, some were not fertile. Then at day 18, none of the rest of them had developed. A few looked to be early quitters. They were shipped during that early hot spell so I'm guessing they may have sat on a truck somewhere in the heat. The breeder is planning on being at the Stockton show again and will bring me birds or eggs (or maybe both!). I set five of my own eggs from the farm in the incubator with the shipped eggs. One was not fertile, one was an early quitter, two hatched, and the last one pipped but turned funny and died before zipping.

Bummer PetRock, our best laid plans... My Roo is still waiting for his Langshan flock. I have 5 black and 1 splash pullet that are close to 14 weeks old. In the meantime he's been a great flock master for my wife's layers. He makes food calls and watches over them like a shepherd. The smaller legbars and legbar x penedensenca, are too fast for him to mate. He's wearing out the two marans that are in there. They're missing some back feathers. I think I need to introduce the Langshan pullets as soon as they are big enough to work their way into the pecking order. I have 2 black and 1 blue cockerels also 14 weeks. I think the blue has potential, although I'm mostly interested in black.

I was going through some pictures on my camera and thought I'd share one or two

Beautiful birds, Jim! I loved the LF black Langshan chicks that I hatched from your eggs last year! Are you still shipping eggs???

If you are I am interested as well! Actually looking for someone that has Pullets, not into the hatching, but I'll do what I gotta do to get me some Langshans! I have a Mix of Langshan/Lav Orp... They are really cute!!!!

Now then, Langshan-experts from all over the world, help me to sex this one. It was a boy. Then a girl. Everybody agreed. but now we are not so sure. HELP! The dog is his/hers/its stepmother. She gets really upset if you try to seperate them. Cute, eh?

If I could figure out who the egg eater was I could ship eggs.

I know that it's not funny but it hit me as funny! I have an egg eating scrub jay who flies into my coop and has a fondness for blue eggs! I have to keep the side door closed to keep him/her out. I wish that I had the money to install a camera to record what happens in the coop! It is one nest box war after another with the occasional blue invader thrown in there!
