Langshan Thread!!!

Pet Rock, when the male stands, his body should be in a U shape and upright with a fairly long neck. Yours are heavy-bodied which is fine if they are tall. I wish I could see the bottom bird standing like the other two. I would keep the one that has the most proportioned (to the body and tail)long neck and the cleanest U shape which would be the middle one judging by the pics, but i would have to see them in person to judge correctly. American langshans are big, lovely birds-my favorite bird by far.

Those aren't my boys.

I do need to take some new pics of mine. We are finalizing our roo choices this next week and processing the extras. The nicest looking male we have is a white from eggs from Mikaela. We only have one white female though and she isn't the best in type. Hopefully, the chicks we hatch from that pairing will be an improvement. We have a few black and blue juveniles and are watching them as they grow & mature. I am hoping that we will be in full swing with breeding next spring. We are just running a year behind. We have been building breeding hoop coops but can only finish them as the money is available. It seems like as soon as one is finished, we need to use it as a grow out pen mainly for our Bresse.

I wanted to post a few pictures up of the Beauford's I hatched at 2.5 months or so. I love this pair. To my (under educated, but learning) eye they look very nice and I am excited to have them. The rooster has a certain pizzazz to him at the tender age of 2.5 months. Let me know what you think and don't be afraid to burst my bubble, I can take it. I have another one too, but it isn't nearly this nice.

How odd...my cockerels don't get that much red in their faces and combs until well into their 5th month! Strange how things can differ. I like your male's coloring better than your females, but the offspring will throw some good colored ones, some off-colored and (hopefully) some splashes! It's a bit too young to say how good they will be. From the second photo, his tail doesn't appear to be as pinched as I had thought it would be in the first photo. Give them some time and please feel free to post photos as they grow!

I was showing off my one splash pullet back in June on this thread. rodriguezpoultry thought it had some Beauford influence. Turns out the Ebay seller I bought the eggs from is now advertising them as Beauford line. The price about doubled. I still think she's the prettiest chicken I have on the property.

Coupscoops? Yep...saw that. I guess I can't see the big deal? It's a good line but you have to know what you're doing and how to breed it, like any other breed or line of bird. You have to know what will compliment and what will ruin. Unfortunately, many just don't understand that and will throw anything in. I'm not saying that's what is happening with that seller, just that it happens and everyone should be careful when purchasing.

The other brother to this one that I have still has a pretty pale comb and wattles. The roosters I bred from my own chickens are just now reddening up a lot more at 4 months. I like the light blue a lot, but his coloring is more striking I guess. He does have a nice little tent in the back, but it's hard to see because I didn't get a good rear shot to post. I guess we shall see how he turns out. His back is pretty darn short. Is that good or bad? I thought it would be good for the U shape. The standard is a little vague to me there because I found it a little hard to get a clear picture after reading through.

Couldn't agree more. I hate seeing birds advertised as certain lines because of this. Way too many morons out there trying to use others names and hard work to make money off their junk.

Instead of complaining about not liking how some people do things, how about helping to educate those who ask. Just a thought...sorry if you don't like who I got my birds from. She seems ok to me, but I feel some kind of round about passive aggressiveness here. Forgive me if I'm wrong please, but that's how it looks from the outside.

There's nothing wrong with who you got your birds from. You like them and you are happy with them. It was a general statement with no ill-will intended. It is something that has recently been surfacing of people claiming certain lines are kept while what has actually happened is someone said the birds were from a particular like in order to get a sale.

I have purchased eggs from coupscoups for bantam eggs but didn't get a good hatch. She is a good seller with good quality birds. It want anything meant to degrade her, again, just a sweeping statement.

A good example of this was going to a swap recently. Someone claimed these disgusting Cochin bantams were from a well-known breeder. Why? To make a sale. There is NO way those birds came from that breeder.
