Langshan Thread!!!

Nesting boxes will be their sleeping part? That's plausible but you may get poopy eggs. I do that, I just clean them out on a daily basis( usually I just scoop the poo out ). Mine don't get roosts for two reasons A) there wasn't enough room B) Brahmas are too big to get on roosts any way. With Leghorns you will probably want roosts since the tails on those boys will get long. Now if these are just your breeders and will not be shown then I guess it's just what ever preference is.

Eh for them I would say 3 sq. ft. Each pen I have is 16 sq. ft. and I keep a trio of Brahmas in there. They have plenty of room with a touch of 5 sq. ft. per bird. The nesting boxes do suck up a bit of that space but still this works well for them. The more the better generally speaking. Although I will say too much space and they won't give off enough heat to keep it somewhat warm. For them I think 3-4sq. ft. is about the minimum I would do.

Here is my rooster if anybody would care to comment I would appreciate it:) he is a croad langshan and he is nine months old

. I did the conversion and it came out to be 4sq ft = 0.4sq m. I have sheets of flooring 2.64m sq ( 28.42 ft sq )/ sheet, so that will be enough if I use a sheet each pen?
They will also have out side area.

i'll have to comment on his type a bit later, time for the OSU vs. Mizzou game, but I had to clarify that all of the Langshans in the U.S. are direct descendants of Major Croad's birds that he originally imported. Unfortunately people are using that Croad name to suggest that other breeders, who have may have better birds, have mixed lineage as their birds do not lay the misleading "plum" egg color. Thing is, the Croad birds never actually layed a plum colored egg, the cuticle/bloom only makes them appear that way.

Ok. Sorry. Had to interject a bit. Sorry of there are any typos, for some reason my phone lags with this website and catches up at weird intervals.

Thank you for the clarification! I just call them what the breeder called them whom I got the hatching eggs from :) and yes please come back and comment and I can get better pics if needed. He was moving around a lot and making it difficult. Thanks

Seconding rodriguezpoultry about the Langshan is a Langshan is a Langshan thing. Only reason the word Croad is added in europe is they have other Langshan breeds over there that they created by crossing Langshan to other things, we do not. Anyway on to comments...

I really like his depth of body. He could use a little more leg. Tail angle is spot on and my new pet peeve sickle length is good. He doesn't have a lot of extra fluff which is a nice thing to see. It's a minor thing but his comb is a bit on the large side. The above picture is a bit blurry, but he appears to have adequate width and doesn't appear to narrow too much at either end. Only other thing I really see to comment on is his chest could fill out a little bit more, but that will come with age. Overall a pretty nice bird with what can be seen from these photos.
