Langshan Thread!!!

If I had the room I'd take one off your hands! I think when I get the space for another coop I will have one that I can just put a bunch of breeds in. I want so many but I've been told not to breed too many. A black Langshan Cock would be at the top of my list.

That's a pretty nice pullet there, Sherry has beautiful Langshans (and I'm not just saying that because that's where my Blacks came from). Was supposed to be a good turn out for Asiatic Class. Some of my friends that were down there posted the Light Brahma that took Champ Asiatic....oh my god that was a gorgeous bird.

I was there! Wish that I could have met you! I spent some time talking to Sherry and ended up buying the Langshan trio that she had for sale. She told me that her stock came from Joe Oakley and James Smith. I was disappointed that James didn't make it to the show this year but thrilled to buy a trio that came from his birds! They went home with my farm friends so I will have to take a trip there this next week to get some pics. They were not happy in the sales barn and were not interested in posing for me.

He was very gorgeous! I stood in front of his cage for a long time just admiring him!

I love these birds (only have three black Langshans). They have strong healthy athletic proud builds on them. They are pretty flight capable. A bit independent and one never squats to be picked up but evades every time. Am I the only one that is getting really small eggs out of their Langshans? Good quality nice dark orange yolks but always they are so small. Just seems odd for such a huge bird to lay such small eggs.

I did a short visit this year. I had a 2 pm appointment and had to leave by noon to get home. Didn't talk to anybody but almost brought a mini donkey. Dodged a bullet there. I saw that trio in the sales barn. I could see the family resemblance with that cockerel and my cock.

We were there from 8 AM until around 3 PM. I did briefly see that mini donkey. How cute! I spent quite a while looking at the trio before buying them. The cockerel was not happy to be there and would not put his tail up. But based on what Sherry said and the fact that her birds came from 2 good sources, I went ahead and bought them. Both pullets are bigger than any of our pullets/hens and have better conformation. I'm interested to see how the cockerel compares in size with Thor. He does have a better tail spread so that's good. They are only 10 months old so still have some growing to do.

Yes my only complaint with my Langshans is that the 10 1/2 month old pullets consistently lay a 50g egg. On the positive its a nicely shaped egg, generally with good color, and they were the only breed that didn't completely stop over the past couple months. Currently I'm getting about 5-6 eggs a week from 5 pullets.

These 2 pullets that I bought yesterday haven't started laying yet. They sure look close to POL though. Hopefully, they will start laying in a couple weeks after they have adjusted to their new farm home!
