Langshan Thread!!!

As far as egg size goes I think that depends on the individual birds and the breeding. Mine are medium to small large. I have seen others eggs that are a small medium and then there is rodriguezpoultry's eggs that are the biggest most beautiful Langshan eggs I have ever seen!! I live in Florida and the Langshans handled the record heat better than any of my other breeds. This amazes me because they are black and you would think that they would absorb the heat. Egg production slowed way down last winter but never completely stopped. Hope this answers your question.

Thank you e! I hope with the addition Of another old line to mine, any decreased hatchability will stop. I'm going to be very picky as to the breeder birds I choose from the choices I have so that the offspring will retain the traits I live most about my own birds. Wish I could update with photos but at the moment my birds are being housed at another location. Anyone have any photos they'd like to share to soothe my addiction??

Decreased hatchability? Two out of the first three were out when I left for work... Oh, and 100% fertility so far.

LOL! The entire summer I put in 100 eggs. All would make it to hatch then quit. Remember, I was breeding siblings and mothers. The blue male that's in there now is "almost" unrelated to most of those hens, save for 2.

Inkheart, the move went great!! Got everything up here, other than a very large critter...which we will be getting when we go back for the wedding!

Thought I'd revive the thread...

Anyone have any birds they'd like to share? I can't thank certain people enough for hatching eggs for me. My incubator is just awful. I was so scared that I wouldn't have any extra breeder birds, especially going into the harder winter months.

This is one of my favorite threads, too! I would love to see some more pics! I'll try to take some of my little blue pullet Bijou if you don't mind seeing more of her. She is so independent! We have integrated our youngsters in with our flock of 7 hens. Bijou free ranges in between the two groups during the day. At night, she waits until the big girls have gone to roost, enters the coop, and pushes her way in between the big girls on the top roost. She gets a few pecks but it doesn't stop her from taking her place at the top. She is a brave girl and so fun to watch!

The only pictures I'd have to show are eggs. I had incubator problems with my first hatch. I was lucky enough to get 16 eggs from Cindy Rasmussen. They are on day 5. I will be getting a trio from her as well. This Fall I will get eggs from Wil Hanley. I am also looking for other LF SQ eggs. I have Black and Blue eggs. I'd really like to get some white Langshan eggs and eggs from Forrest's former flock.

Back to lurking for now
Jim

Rodriguez Poultry,

By "share" do you mean photos or what?

BTW I have two young blue Langshan roos that need to find new homes. I bought them from Sand Hill Preservation as day-olds and they're now fairly obviously roos.

(Incidentally, I got nine chicks from a combined order and SIX are roos!)

If you know of anyone who'd be interested in them, let me know.

I'm in Collegeville, PA.

Where are you?

Thanks.

I'm sorry, by "share" I meant share photos. Do you have any photos of your males? Maybe someone will find this thread and see that you have them available? Have you tried posting on Craigslist? That's where I go to first when I'm looking. I took some photos today, they are not very good, but until I find my camera, it's all I can do. I will upload in a few minutes!

I'm near State College, PA.

Jim, by all means! Please share your photos of your eggs! They still count!
