Laree's "I CAN'T STOP MYSELF FROM HATCHING!!!" Hatch-a-long

Hey good idea

LOL

He also had a good friend that works at one of the main post offices. Maybe I should see if she'll run a few through for me too.

Hmmm.......Haven't seen her since about a year before he died, so I'm kind of CHICKEN, but I just might see if I can get hold of her.

Didn't even think to ask her about shipping problems. Matter of fact she just came to mind.

another duh moment

Also make sure you have some from the same batch of eggs as a control group.

Yup

He can't do this for a week, but that's ok since I need lots of eggs.

Actually thinking 4 dozen and do 2 then another 2.

I'm going to use the M x G since I have so many of those and I know they hatch out really good. But I think I need some that I otherwise have problems with too.

Still don't have everything figured out yet and will probably change some things, but I'm really interested in finding out what happens. Or doesn't.

WOW!! I had something amazing happen.. Out of all of the LF Americauna eggs I received from Cloverleaf Farm.. every single one is fertile and showing great development on DAY 5!!! This is only my 4th experience with shipped eggs but I have not had very positive success with them. I've had less than 50% on all and most of them didn't make it to lockdown at all. Many infertile/early quitters.. I am SO impressed so THANK YOU for helping stuff my 'bator

The roo is definitely getting the job done!

Goose egg has still not hatched...I think it wants me to stress

2 turkeys are due tomorrow and 12 pheasants are due Tuesday...here's hoping for a good hatch from them!

I think my broody-bird count is up to 24 unless you count the doves and pigeons as 2 (pair) each. I have 2 dove pairs and 2 pigeon pairs on eggs. Currently I have 1 goose, 4 ducks, 15 chickens, then the doves and pigeons

Anyone know of a good glove company? These dang hens are in the 'good' nests so they are getting daily donations. Some of them just growl at me, others peck, then I've got 2 who grab and twist---OW!!!

Mrs.brown :

Could you take a pic of the cross beaked chick? I think I have one.

I will try to get a picture before the end of the day. This chick had subtle case of cross beak--AZDC in the AZ Thread is trying to get my bleeding heart to take her cross beak chick (found at the same feed store) and posted some pics yesterday. Here are her pics--

I have a crossbeaked EE chick. It started that small and has gotten progressively worse as she has gotten older. I expect it will be fully crossed by the time she reaches adulthood. She can still keep up with the others and is perky and the same size. Eating well. Uses the scoop method.

Happy Monday! I have pips and peeps in my "new" hatcher bator, although I am concerned about it. Turns out it is NOT an LG like the guy I bought it from said, but a still air Hova-Bator. I'm having some trouble keeping the temps steady, but when I candled last night there were a bunch of internal pips so I had to move them out of the turner. It seems to be bouncing back and forth between 98 and 102 on one of the hygrometer/thermometer, staying about 97 on the Brinsea Spot Check and steady at 98 on the old fashioned glass incubator thermometer it came with.

. I hope they make it! Humidity is staying steady at 70% so that's something I guess

I have a still air hovabator and I usually have temp issues toward the end. I attribute this to the chicks starting to add to the temps in the bator. I just get it around 100 and then open my vents as necessary. It has been really reliable mostly. The issue I seem to have is humidity toward the end. Both of my hatches so far have ended up with just 1 or 2 sticky chicks at the end or 1-2 shrink wrapped. I am really really really going to try not opening the bator once the hatch starts. I have tried opening quick to grab out chicks when there are 5 or so dry but maybe that's the issue. It doesn't seem to drop the humidity but the last babies show me otherwise.
