As for keeping an injured bird outside, I honestly only know my situation. I can probably tell you that the farmer beside me would probably cull his injured bird before even thinking about taking it to the vet, much less keeping it inside.

We do not know the nature of your bird's wound, what was affected/damaged, how long it was left, and the bird's state of health. There are so many factors that need to be taken into consideration, but as a general rule, with most birds, trimming the surrounding feathers around the wound, lavaging it with either saline, chlorhexidine, or betadine, then applying honey, or a triple antibiotic ointment to the wounds, seems to work well for most people. Keep the bird inside, away from flies, in a warm, stressful free clean area.
