So, I've not had to deal with any crop issues since owning chickens, but I figured my time was coming. I got three English Chocolate Orpingtons yesterday and the cockerel has a large, boggy crop. I saw it last night, when I got them about 730ish and this morning when I let them out, it is unchanged. It feels like a balloon and does not seem to hurt him. I opened his beak and nothing foul is coming out. He is eating and doing chickeny things. Any suggestions? I've read putting apple cider vinegar? I currently have probiotics/vitamins in their water. 20180724_083540.jpg 20180724_083429.jpg 20180724_083402.jpg

There are more than one type of crop issue - sour crop (there may or may not be a foul odor), impacted crop, and a combo of the two together. Here's how to tell which you are dealing with and how to treat. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...w-to-know-which-one-youre-dealing-with.73607/

Your new roo may have a combination of impacted crop and sour crop. It usually begins with eating something that isn't easily processed by the crop and gizzard and the mass remains in the crop or gizzard, and the result is fermentation or yeast colonization. The yeast continues to multiply and the crop never empties. A chicken can slowly starve to death as the condition simulates a full crop so the appetite disappears.

What I recommend is to dose him first with a couple teaspoons of coconut oil followed by some miconazole. The miconazole can be found in the women's hygiene products in the pharmacy section. Follow the instructions in my article for treatment.

2 tsp of coconut oil in. 20 min massage, seemed to go down some. Not in any pain. 1/2 inch of miconazole in as well.
Eating and drinking. Will see how it goes ^_^

He had a 100% empty crop this AM ^_^ I did a mixed treatment for impacted and sour crop.
I tried the coconut oil massage three times, miconazole, and then I found a mixture of cinnamon, ginger, chili powder, baking soda, and water (all supposedly for impacted).
His crop has gotten smaller daily until empty today! Thank you for your article!
