Large Comb and wattles on my RIR hens

That really is a dark red. I think she is beautiful also, but I prefer the more golden red color of the production reds. If I ever get a chance to move and buy some acreage I would like to own some heritage breeds. It didn't makes sense to me now since I can't own a rooster so no breeding.
It really doesn't take much time to ferment the feed once you have a system down. I only have 8 birds though so for me everything takes less time.

I have a lot of birds and go through 3 bags of feed a week. Probably even more in the winter. I'd have to have a lot of different fermenting stations. Doesn't it need to be left for 24 hours at least? I'll have to read up on it more.

Also, do you find it conserves feed?

I find it does conserve feed, and I think there poop smells less too! Check out the thread over on the meat bird forum. There are many different ways to ferment. Some have large plastic trash cans and ferment 50lbs of feed at a time. Most use various sized buckets and have a couple going so that while you are feeding from 1 the other is cooking so to speak.
