An opossum pulled the head off of one of my 6 mo old chicks 4 years ago. We relocated him. Also, we previously had 20+ rats in our coop, and we were getting no eggs. Now, we have trapped most of the rats, but still a few smart ones remained. It pained me, because I have a pet rat, Wiggles, who is awesome. Snakes are horrible too. One 6ft long rat snake hid in our coop when we let our birds out, but he didn‘t bother the rats. I opened the door, and he was a foot from my face! I am scarred.Your chickens must be very grateful to the hunter. I know I would be, as well as my girls. Possums are enough to deal with for us, and the occasional rat. Removed at least 2 dozen possums last year from our urban area. Also got one that was living in my neighbor's kitchen wall. Sorry, but I had no mercy when I caught a possum in my coop with a hen in his mouth in the middle of the night. The hen is fine by the way, still laying well. Can't say as much for the possum.
