The top front and sides are open, with hardware cloth cover.

That's nice...but...the side vents are not protected from rain infiltration...
...and probably not enough ventilation for a TX summer.
Is the back soffit open also? That would give better air flow.

Lovely job. Agreed, rain coming in sides will be an issue. That can easily be fixed with a bit of ingenuity. And, a window on the run side would be LOVELY. My birds love their windows!

Soffit on both front and back are finished with airflow soffit vents, to keep critters out, but allow for airflow.
