I have a large rooster and 3 bantam hens and they all get along really well. I have seen him mate with the 2 older ones. My problem is my hens are not laying any more. it seems like they stopped maybe when we got the rooster. I thought it might be because of it being winter. Did they stop laying because of my rooster?

Where are you located? You may want to update your profile with location, helps us determine time zone, weather, predators, etc ... Did you quarantine the Roo prior to introducing to the hens? Chickens don't take to change very well, they maybe accepting him but he's bigger than they. I'd be concerned with a LF mounting a bantam, mainly size & weight. I maybe wrong but the "mating" could also be a "shock" to them.

:pop Would like to see what the exprienced have to say

Things that are coincidental maybe are no more than that. However, there can be lots of reasons why hens quit laying, some harmless, others you may need to be concerned about.

If your rooster is new to these hens and they aren't used to his attentions, that can cause stress and that can affect laying.

If your roo is really large and heavy, and if the bantam hens are very small, he could exert enough pressure on them to injure internal organs. Even if he's not injuring them, mating may be uncomfortable enough to cause them to stop laying. It's generally a good idea to limit a rooster to hens that are large enough to support his weight.
