So i had four chickens, one was a rooster so we got rid of him, and one died. So ever since that one died i was looking for new ones. because we only have two, whenever one would be in the nesting box, the other onw would be lonely. The lonely one starts to go crazy bocking here there running everywhere. We found this person, but she only sells large orpington chickens. My chickens aren't large, but they aren't that small. Kinda medium. Would i be able to mix them? One of my hens are very donimte, and we used to have an orpington. They got along well, but would a full size be worse?

Welcome! We are so happy to have you here at BYC! :welcome

It depends on the temperament of the breed. Orpingtons are generally very sweet, so I don't think there will be a problem. Best wishes!!! :)

We have a variety in our flock- 1 buff Orpington, 1 Black sex link, 1 Black australorp, 1 production red, 2 EE, 2 FBCM, and 2 white leghorns. So some big girls like the BO and one of my FBCM is even bigger, and the smaller EE and leghorns. No problems at all, they all get along well with just some minor pecking order stuff.

The breed i already have, is barred rock, and their temperment is calm. Althoughm the dominiate one got attacked by a dog twice, so she is a little meaner. other one fell of the ladder, for the roost, and broke leg. Of coarse when this happened i was new and didnt know what was happening, so it healed wrong and now she will hop on one leg for the rest of her life. Luckily, she has me who could love and care for her, help her, and treat her. If she was on some type of chicken farm where there a lot of chickens, she would most likely be killed for breaking her foot ;(.

Yes, but we have a small coop, so they might start fighting over food?

If you notice them fighting over food, putting out another feeder would help. Or, if you can help it, get more space (if each chicken doesn't have 3 sq. ft in the coop). Best wishes!

How small? If you don’t have room for more, don’t get more until you do, otherwise you could have problems no matter what breed they are.

My dad, my mom, and i have been talking about making more room by using chicken wire to enlarge it. Im pretty sure we have enough room though.
