Larkwell Valley (2023)

My grandma is extremely terrified of snakes, so she usually kills whatever she finds, which unfortunately is garters most times since she's in town.

We leave the Bullies if possible because they take up space from the rattlers, and there's an old wives tale that they even eat rattlers.
Down here we have far more nonvenomous snakes. Mostly rat snakes and king snakes. We did have a huge timber in the yard last year. Biggest I ever saw.

Out at my place, it's almost solely Bullies and Rattlers. Very occasionally we might see a Garter, but I think it's too dry for them. In town is much damper because of all the lawns and rain they get

We have like 300 different kinds here it seems. 😂 They're everywhere. Last year we had a rat snake try to eat one of our ducks. Grabbed him by the butt and started trying to wrap around him. I snatched him off and all he got was feathers. We saw garters every once in a while. Claxton, which is about 45 minutes from here, has a rattlesnake roundup every year, where they catch a ton of rattlesnakes and milk them, and either cook or release them.

Welp, I guess I only have 2 duck eggs down at the barn now. Thankfully that egg was new, so anything developed was only 24 hours in at most. And I'd much rather the snake eat fresh eggs than the chicks running around. I mean, I'd really prefer that he eat the mice trying to take over, but if it's between eggs and chicks, I'll almost always prefer he eat the eggs
And here I thought you had a pet snake to go with all your other animals, and I was thinking you were very clever to have chosen one that is happy eating eggs

Of course it's clear now that I've read a few more posts.

I would love an egg eater snake, but they are surprisingly picky. I do want to get captive bullies eventually, so maybe I'll see if I can get mine to eat eggs when I eventually do get to have one

Same here, NC. I've seen 7 or 8 different species in my yard. The prettiest was a Smooth green snake.

I did a thing

Really hoping I don't get a bunch more fawn and white females. I'd really prefer no more blacks either, but if I get another 5 fawn and whites, I might just scream. Really, really hoping for a silver or a chocolate.

Have 6 birds to cull today. 5 extras and my Java. She got stuck in a cage wall upside down by her spur and we think dislocated her leg. Sucks, she was one I would have made room for, but it's been a few days without improvement and I can't fix a dislocation.

Updated to 7 birds to cull, I was able to snag one of the ones that keeps escaping
