Larkwell Valley (2023)

...or you could separate them off a bit from the majority, throw them single "treats" and listen for the drakes. IMO it's easier to listen for the drakes in a big group (if there are less of them).
I don't want to do that every time though. That's why I band my females once they're ful grown. I'm only seeing them before they're full size because I want to start moving extras and need to know my extra males

I ended up with 4 st run ducklings. They were a week old, and discounted to make room for the next shipment. Pretty sure they're Rouen. They're currently with a Phoenix that lost her clutch of eggs, but goodness, even at a week, they're almost too big to all fit underneath her. She seems content with them, and they latched onto her pretty quick too, so hopefully this all goes well.

I've never had any calls shipped so idk 🤷‍♂️
Once my ducks become more reliable with brooding, I'll be a bit more comfortable with ordering hatching eggs. I think I might have two girls though (one I thought was a boy didn't sound as drake like as the other 3), which would at least give me a trio for now

As long as no one else goes after them, these 4 are going to do pretty good I think. Mama is very proud of her horribly deformed chicks. These are the oldest I've ever grafted onto an actually broody hen. (I used to have a Japanese that took anything younger than puberty under her wing, but she wasn't really ever broody when I gave her birds to mother)

Vastly underestimated how many pens a bag of shavings would do. I got 3 pens done, depending on how I feel tomorrow when I go into town, I'll probably get 2 more bags and then another 2 bags that evening when I go back into town. That will be enough to do all the pens I'm planning to keep stocked I think.

Yeah, my feed store was out of shavings when I went Tuesday. I'll need to go back to town tomorrow for some, if I have a vehicle available. Ducks muck up their pens so fast!

Poor birds !re eager for raising heatwave

Especially, I'm still working on the outside pens, so the ones that are contained (usually the Littles and extra males) have a smaller space than I'd like so they have to be rotated more to let the actual ground have a chance to dry out
