Larkwell Valley (2023)

Granted chicken behavior may be a little different.
But i can tell ya with the ducks sometimes if they are dead set on sitting eggs they won't even get off the nest for the early hatched ducklings if they wander out from under them.

That was what I had an issue with earlier. The ducks are way easier for me to break broodiness than chickens are, so I'll probably just break the ones that I need off nests. The some of the chickens I have just continue to sit on nothing (even in wire floor cages) until they have babies.

YUP! Have that with one of my scovies. Which is why I ended up incubating more eggs than planned. She loves sitting on the eggs, but is not a good mother. :(

@Pyxis, could you help with duckling colors again? I might have 2 males to choose from for my mixed flock

Option 1:
Saxony Male
X
Magpie female
Pekin female
Buff female
Rouen female
Khaki female
Blue Swedish female

Option 2:
Magpie male
X
Magpie female
Pekin female
Buff female
Rouen female
Khaki female
Blue Swedish female

I know if I keep the Magpie male, I'll get pure magpies, but I think the Saxony would give more color options over all, right? I just want to try to avoid having a male that will result in almost all my hens throwing black ducklings

Sorry for not replying, I had covid. Did you figure out what you wanted to do?

Welp, the heatwave claimed its first victim. Not solely, but the heat stress was enough that the mareks got a foothold and she no longer can use one of her legs. She was on the list to go, but I still hate every time this stupid disease reminds me of why I'm trapped culling most of my chickens
