Lost the youngest chick under One Leg. Quick glance showed no other losses. So she should have 3 Java mixes, 1 sexlink and the rest pheonixs. Also think I miscounted. I think she should have had 8, not 9 last night, so she should have 7 now. I'll check when I get home.

3 of the phoenix chicks got chilled when One Leg jumped out of the bin and left the chicks. They're back to normal, and I'm setting up a kennel for her that is all the same level so it doesn't happen again.

Didn't see any little bodies when I checked this morning, so I'm thinking all of the chicks are still okay. I was in a rush though, the heat lamp for the ducklings burned out last night so they were screaming while I was hurrying to give them the (admittedly weaker) backup while trying to leave for work. Going to replace it with a new bulb when I get home. One Leg had moved to where the first lamp was hitting the side of the pen she's in, so I'm hoping she wasn't relying on that heat to keep everyone warm. It just occurred to me she may be at a disadvantage with one leg being gone when it comes to warmth contact her chicks have with her.

Also had to move a phoenix pullet in with the ducks. Something about her is making her irresistible to the male's and they were going to tear her apart (yes, I need to process some males, I just need more hours in the day when it's tolerable outside right now) so she's in with the babies. Not a fan of the lack of roosting avaliable, but she seems okay where she is and she can still see other chickens.

One Leg ended up losing the 2 odd colored Phoenix chicks. She's down to 6 now. Nothing out of the ordinary with my broody rate yet, especially for a pullet, but still a bummer. The other 6 are chunks though, and the 2 odd ones were very slim, so it's always possible they just were not thriving.

Cheese is broody. I might pull her in a few days so she's isolated. She's already skinnier than I'd like and I don't trust the boys to eat the food in the pen and not the bowl I placed by her nest.

Cornish is also broody, as well as a pheonix in the cochin coop. And Mare, your namesake is also broody, and a scary one at that.

So I might have someone who can take any little @ColtHandorf babies I hatch. Unfortunately I have to brood my Cornish chicks anyways if they hatch, so I'll have a brooder set up anyways.

Might swap the eggs the Cornish and Cheese are on, just so the Cornish chicks are with Cheese instead. That might give them better odds

Starting a hatchling a bit late, it's been about 30 hours?

Who wants to guess what they are?

Tan ones are the Cornish I mentioned previously from my flock to act as control. That way if they are the only ones to develop, I know it was the shipping and if nothing develops, I know it might have been my incubator acting up.

Hopefully I end up with 22 screaming chicks in about 3 weeks
