Not unless they are in big trouble. The air cell grows quite a bit and is drawn down after lockdown so they may have no problem at all. We try to make sure it's at a certain size for lockdown to give them the "optimal" chance for hatch, but that does not mean that if our preconceived notion of "optimal" is not reached they will have problems. So, unless they are in distress after the pip, there is nothing that can be done. You can not enter an unpipped shell to "remove" a chick and think that it is saveable. The chance of not killing it because it is not ready, especially vascularly and pulmonarily is low . There is a point where even if the chick is in trouble, there is not much you can do because nature hasn't prepared it for hatch.
