I’m on the last 2 days of incubation and I’m absolutely dying of anticipation! What can I expect? When should they start hatching? I swear I keep hearing quiet peeps from the incubator but I’m not seeing anything yet. I candled all the eggs on day 17 and saw movement in all of them, so I’m hoping they all make it out.

Hi!

You're going to be in for a great surprise! Try keeping the incubator closed now. They shouldn't be auto or manually turned anymore. This is called "lockdown," in case you didn't know. :)

Next, you'll start seeing holes. That's them pipping. They will then take up to 24 hours to finish, but many just seem to pop right out of it within a few minutes sometimes. They keep going on that hole they made, zipping as we call it, until they are totally around the egg and the top (wide end) falls off or they push it off.

Once they hatch, they may hobble around at first. Them bumping the other eggs is okay. The humidity will rise too from them hatching and is usually temporary, until the next one hatches.

After they are all hatched, dry, and fluffy, you can take them out. If some are fluffy yet there are eggs pipped and still hatching, I'd leave those fluffy ones in there while the others finish up. Opening up the incubator while eggs are pipped can cause the membrane to stick to them, making it more difficult for them to maneuver out.

Be patent do not open up the incubator! I learned the hard way I was opening the incubator to much and during lockdown and two got shrink wrapped and one died! But do not try to assist or anything until 24 hours after pipping. The mane thing is try to be PATENT AND DO NOT OPEN THE INCUBATOR. Go do something else for a while and try to keep in mind how long each egg has been Pipped for.
Good luck with your hatch!

Oh thank you! This is very helpful. I haven’t opened it since day 17, so I’ll be sure to keep it closed then!

Oh no! I will definitely keep it closed!

Meet my first chick ❤️ One hatched and several others have started. I’m so excited! Out of the 10 only 4 of them I can’t see any cracks, but they’re at the back and I don’t want to move the incubator around to get a look at them. So hopefully they’ve pipped too.
