Last Egg for Awhile Has Pipped...

speckledhen, I believe that you can do it. You can break the evil hatching cycle, if just for a short while. I'm hoping to break my cycle soon, too. I've got one more batch of bantam Blue and Salmon Faverolles eggs that are supposed to ship to me next week. Then I think I should be done for a while, too.

I really want a nice little flock of at least 9 or 10 of the bantam Faverolles. I only got five out of the last attempt. So I need at least five more from the next batch of eggs (different source) to make my goal.

I'm hoping that I don't come home from work next week to find my bags and incubators on the front step when the next batch of eggs arrives.

Wife is already saying, "How many more chickens do we need? I don't want the neighbors to start calling you that crazy chicken man". My perspective is that I could have worse vices like collecting the other kind of chicks, or drinking, or gambling, or.... and the list goes on and on. At least the chickens keep me out of real trouble.

I think wife is really afraid that the backyard will turn into one giant chicken yard. Well, the backyard is about 1 acre in size and I've got two 10 x 10 foot chicken enclosures and the small chicken tractor, so far. I think I'll end up with one more 10 x 10 enclosure for the bantam Faverolles and a few Silkies. Then maybe a few small breeding pens if the need arises. So, I know I'll be enduring a few more tongue lashings by the time I've built chicken city.

Well cyn I am not sure you are going to be able to put up the bator for a while. I only lasted about 2 months and that was torture. I bet by next month it will be going again. lol anywho congrats on the baby can;t wait to see a pic that you seem to always torture me with.

Sorry, it's been busy here with the customer coming to pick up her four girls yesterday that I hatched and have been raising for her and the hatches of the last couple weeks on top of that but I'll get a picture of the little BR baby, a cockerel I believe, sometime today.

It's a crazy sea of black in the brooder with 11 BRs, 3 Black Orpingtons,1 Black Ameraucana and the black Blue Orp/Buff Brahma cross (that one is sort of chocolate black, interesting). Then the two blue Orps and the one splash are the only "punctuation" in there. Well, the unusually patterned silvery BR baby does sort of stick out. I'm starting to really think that's a BR/SLW cross.

Cyn, if it is a cross do you have any idea which SLW is mom? IF I remember right, you have three of them.

Wow, good memory! Yes, I have three of them and I would bet it's Violet. Hawkeye doesn't like Lacy and I've at least seen Vi do a half-squat for him a couple of times. Also, I thought her eggs used to be fertile at one time, so I think it's Violet rather than Lorelei or Lacy.

Yeah, they all like to play King of the Hill with Mr. Monkey, LOL. Sometimes they turn him on his stomach and all line up on his back, like castaways on Monkey Island.
