Terri,,your addiction will grow.Just because you ONLY kept 6 this year, next year it will be some more, and the building continues.Yoda, I think my 1 bssp egg due quit on me.At 6am yesterday there was movement, last nite I couldn't see anything. That leaves my Aug 29th egg,,it's got activity and better hatch,,otherwise the bators been running for the past 3 weeks for nothing.
Yoda,,if your tickled pink with your foamie, thats great.I've already experienced those dreaded sudden heat spikes that strike out of nowhere and lost about 50 chicken eggs once,,,shipped eggs,,those high priced Marans eggs of about 3 years ago,,my little foamie experiment cost me over $250 in that batch alone.Didn't take me long figure out if I was going to be hatching a lot in the future there was more dependable ways to get it done.

I can't be the last one??,,,,???

I put four eggs under an Old English cross hen that kept sneaking into my house to lay, now she sits next to our fireplace, lol. If any are viable, should have chicks 10/15. I was also thinking about finding some lager broody hens and placing the last of my eggs under them.

Maybe next year I'll invest in some proper equipment and do it without the chicken and turkey moms.

I have a clutch of BS Blue split to Opal eggs that are in the bator due to hatch on Oct 3rd and still have a bunch of turkey eggs in due to hatch into late Oct. It has been an odd year, first eggs on Jan 29th, at least a month earlier than ever before in my 20 years in peas, and a good 2-2 1/2 mos earlier than usual, then they stopped early July (pretty normal) and I got 2 more late clutches in Aug/Sept.

Yes,it's out, fluffy,,had to wing band about 11 other peas and move tonight to make room for this new one,and the two last Opal B/S that hatched on the 6th.This BSSP pipped Sun eve? and made no progress so about 3am today I intervened and it was ready to bust out.I have both feet taped and tomorrow may newspaper wrap it for it's right leg is splayed a little. The toes should be straight by tomorrow morning and if so,will take the tape off,and then roll it up like a cigar and staple in a newspaper roll-up to get the splayed leg like it should be.By tomorrow eve,it should be a 100% normal walking peachick. It's not Zazouse pic taking quality yet,but would fit into the UGLY catagory very well.Brinsea is finally breathing a deep breath and is unplugged.Since April 24th it has only been off maybe a total of 24 hours due to 3 power outages.Going to clean it up good, repack it in it's shipping box,,and sell it.Semester is the German word for September,,so that maybecome the new name of this last BSSP from 2012

Toes are straight,,the two youngest opal b/s chicks have showed it where the water and feed is,,and it doesn't need cigar rolled,,I zip tied both legs together overnight while having both feet taped as well and this morning cut the zip tie off and an hour later it was up walking around.I trimmed some of the toe tape away so it's feet wasn't as large as a ducks foot and now it's happier than a clam.Last egg put in the bator, and it made it,making my 2012 a good ending.Yoda,,do keep us updated on your late hatchers,,,maybe we should start knitting them a sweater now?? Or start a collection for the supplemental heat they will need? These last 3 I hatched will be inside the house for several weeks yet. They are way behind size wise of the others I have kept. Here is the toe taped wonder.
