Last minute incubation advice?

Time sure does drag when eggs are in the incubator...doesn't it?

Keep us posted. Now you have ME all nervous and anxious about your hatch.

This is my first hatch ever so my expectations are super low(14eggs set 1 broke already and 1 was cracked upon transport) I would be super satisfied with a 25% hatch rate. I am setting 27(3 fresh eggs from my 3 week old covey) more tonight in incubator 2 as a back up plan. Keeping the bator up to 99.5-100 and humidity up where it needed to be here in Colorado right was a fun/educational task. So I purchased another bator possibly easier/better to keep temp where it needs to be. We will see. Again, Im cautiously optimistic. Fingers crossed.

The first hatch is always a scary one. My first one I thought the same way....nothin' is gonna hatch! I only keep the incubator on just for the sake of it having sat there for so many weeks on my counter. Ha! BUT....to my surprise, I had a decent hatch. I too broke an egg, cracked another late term, LOL but I still had some hatch.

I am sure you will be fine. Each hatch you learn more about what you are doing and how to do it better next time. Each one is a learning experience. Nothing more magical then watching a tiny egg turn into a small life...to see them zip out of those eggs never gets old for me. Each time I see it, it is like I have never seen it before.

So I came home from work to a chirping in the bator! I have successfully hatch one quail! So I'm going to wait a couple hours for the others and remove them! So pumped right now!

Yay!!! Let him dry off and if you don't have any other pipping, (holes poked through the shell,) you can reach in there quickly and get him out. Get a good hold of him as they squiggle and squirm and you can drop them easily.

Great job!!! Yay!!

Here it is..My new baby..My wife thinks I'm such a dork right now! I love it!

Thanks for walking me through this Two Crows! You are the best!

The box is temporary. They/it have some pretty snazzy digs to move into in the morning/later tonight.

How are things going over there?! How is the little one? I am sure you are a proud Papa!!

Make sure this little one knows where the food is. Generally you should lay down paper towels for the first week and sprinkle CRUSHED gamebird food all over the towels around the feeder. Tap with your fingers so he thinks you are eating and he will eat too. It takes a few days for quail babies to learn what to eat and where it is kept.

Keep him at 97 degrees for the first week and lower the temp by 5 degrees each week for 5 to 6 weeks.

Any more babies hatch??
