Most of the time it's just kind of... there?

We get a lot of wind and often the rain tastes like salt. Not being able to see the sea in at least one direction is unusual here. Not being able to see the sea or get a sense of where it is because you can see Hoy (the tallest island) even more so. When I lived on one of the other islands here, on stormy days you'd have to check the wind direction and tide times before going out in case they closed the road off the island. I collect grit from a spot on the beach where it usually contains a good amount of broken up shells and give that to the chickens, rather than paying for grit or oyster shell.
Wow, I can't imagine what it would be like to have to check the wind direction & tide table before leaving.

I just Googled Orkney, and it looks like a beautiful place to live!

How nice that you found a beach nearby to get grit and shell for your birds. :love

I guess I should also post my photo...

It was actually taken moments ago for the scavenger hunt thread. My husband locked up the ducks a few nights ago, and because we have so many growing young ones it can be hard to get an accurate head count. As a result, two ducks were locked out of their coop for the night. The other one was fine, but something tried to get this poor boy, so I doctored him up and am keeping him in the tub for a few days. I guess whatever predator wrangled with him wasn't up for carrying off a hefty male muscovy. For the first couple of days he couldn't even stand, but he's up and walking again now!
Porr baby! How's he doing today?

Second to last photo, ‘cause the last has someone’s address:

Documenting my progress of organizing and packing the basement…(You don’t want to see what it looked like before ).
