I would poke holes in both ends, addle the yolk with a skewer, blow out the contents and save the shell for posterity. But the one I tried that on did eventually fade to a dark brown.

Yes, you would know. For one thing it would be pretty hard to blow the contents out, and secondly, even though addled you would be able to see that there were two yolks. You could even scramble and cook them if you wanted but ... of course they would not be intact. But you would have the shell for a long time!Good idea!
