Have you thought of getting a sensor light? They turn themselves on if someone or thing trips off the laser light it beams out into like a 25' area. I used to have one on the barn, but I kept whacking it with the door and finally broke it. Replaced it with a regular light. But a good quality sensor light is helpful for shining the light on visitors whether they are 2-legged or 4-legged.

Having new neighbors poking around my yard and coop would realllly tick me off. I don't mind my old neighbors coming in the yard -- their kids sometimes kick a soccer ball or whack a whiffle ball over the fence, and they are polite, nice people -- but if I were new in the 'hood I'd want some kind of protocol until everyone gets to know each other much better.

We have people that think our driveway is THE public turn-your-car-around place. We posted it "private, keep out, no tresspassing," etc, and people still think they own it. In fact, my husband has confronted people who ignore our signs, and they tell him they have the right to use our driveway! We call the police, and they said that NO ONE ELSE has any right to our driveway---it's private, it's posted, and other people are tresspassing until we invite them in. But the problem persists---the people are gone before police can get out here.

So we got one of those motion sensor lights, and positioned the sensor so that if anyone drives in, the light comes on. It does NOT keep people out, they still pull in anyway, it only alerts us. But of course this only alerts us at night, not during the day, so still not a great solution. Also, our cats often trigger the motion senser, so we get false alerts. And then when it rains, water must get into something, becasue then the light stays on all the time! (and we wonder why our electric bill got so high!) I paid like $80 for one motion sensor light setup, and i've concluded it was a big waste of money, for us anyway.

What works best is that my hubby got 3 orange traffic cones---he puts those at the end of the driveway, then people can't pull in. Much cheaper and works better to keep people out. Of course, i suppose they can walk around the cones, but by that time we know someone is here..........becasue we got a Security Camera that gives us a nice view of the driveway!!!

Most people have no clue we have chickens unless we tell them. They are behind the house, so you can't see them from the road. You can just barely catch a glimpse of the coop through the trees, but most people don't even know it's a coop. One visiting lady thought it was a cute play-house for the kids! LOL

Where i live i am more concerned about predators than people harming or stealing my chickens---but so far, nothing has gotten my birds.
