Last year-fancy schmancy brooder for 200 Dollars .... this year....

Last year my husband built me this fancy schmancy brooder (3x5 feet) with hardware cloth lid and all the blings and spend 200 Dollars on material (He is the kind that likes to overbuild).
This year we had to rescue a bunny out of a bad situation and she is now occupying the brooder. Sooooooo since husband is tired of building "animal stuff" for me I asked my local appliance store if they had a big cardboard box for me and voila......... a nice big refrigerator box for 0 Dollars. And as big as the brooder that hubby built !!! For the 5 weeks they stay indoors that will do and then they will have a separated area in the chicken coop and a special outdoor run

I am so proud of myself and can't wait until March 10 when my chickens will arrive !!!!!!

I have the same thing, and was getting a tire put on at RK one day and say two battery operated jeep boxes in a trash looking bin and asked if I could have them for small brooders. . .I was thinking ducks or guineas, or peacocks . . .never know . . .and have them in computer room, just in case. I have the refrigerator box ready to go, so now just have to put the chicken ownership plan into action. Not ordering until April at least. Our winter has been brutal and I have a chicken house to get ready while they are inside. . .the boxes are so big I can't get into the computer room until i move them out of the way to one side, and then move them back to the other side to get back out!!!! Thank God DH doesn't go in there. The idea of him having to go into the attic is terrifying enough!!!
