Hello all, new to the site and I'm hitting the ground running with these questions. We have 4 RIR 3 hens, 1 roo and 3 silkie hens. They are 26 weeks old, spoiled with an awesome coop/run and freerange all day. The problem is not one of them lays; some straw has been moved around in the coop, and one RIR sang her egg song for a bit 3 weeks ago and still nothing. Any advice?

I think the RIR should start laying soon, if she isn't already. Signs to look for is the egg song, a bright red comb and a sudden interest in the nest boxes (and other suitable laying areas). The Silkies on the other hand may let you wait a bit longer. I hear they can take up to 8 months to start laying, depending on the quality of the bird.
